Solar beat Coal in Energy Mix

For the first time ever in the UK, solar panels created more electricity than coal during May 2016. Estimates show that solar produced 1,336 GWh, whilst coal was at just 893 GWh. On top of this according to BP global coal use fell by 1.8% in 2015. Both in the UK and globally the gradual shift away from coal shows a very positive trend, as coal is greatly more polluting than any of its alternatives. If there is a shift to more sustainable energy sources in particular renewables such as solar, then this will have an impact on carbon emissions.
