GKN Aerospace
About the client
GKN Aerospace delivers cutting-edge components to the world’s leading military aircraft and helicopters and provides the technology that helps military aircraft to fly faster, more safely, and with greater fuel efficiency
Drivers for the project
GKN Aerospace looking to reduce energy consumption and environmental impacts, approached Climate Integrated Solutions (CIS) and requested an investigation into LED lighting solutions for the Falcon Yard facility on the Isle of Wight. Following successful completion this was followed by a second phase of installations at their Osborne Rd facility
Solution
CIS developed these projects providing design, specification and managing installation of high end lighting solutions with extended warrantees and guaranteed savings. In addition CIS provided funding via an ESCo model mitigating any capital investment upfront with repayments set below the annual energy cost savings. The project achieved all the benefits from this improvement in working environments, reduced operating costs and delivery of significant CO2 reduction for the organisation. On design and delivery different areas had precise requirements in terms of lux levels and colour render which had to be agreed during design discussions and checked in each phase of works.
Results
CIS have recently completed Phase 2 at the Osborne factory project which consists of a further 2,500replacement light fittings with high efficiency LED lights. Projected electricity savings equate to approximately 1,800,000kWh and £185,121 per annum. This project is also fully funded through an ESCo.
