Moat Community College is a Local Authority secondary school in Highfields, near the city centre of Leicester, catering for over 1,000 children aged 11-16.
Drivers for the project
The school has over 1,000 students and has outdated lighting that is becoming increasingly expensive to operate and maintain, with extended services available the school operates evenings and weekends therefore the requirement for energy is increased beyond school hours. As with most schools the budgets are decreasing and the need to reduce costs are important. In addition the school is committed to looking for ways to improve the educational environment.
Solution
CIS designed and specified a range of diverse market leading replacement, lighting solutions for the college covering class rooms to climbing walls, as well as achieving over 60% reduction in energy costs. The new lighting will deliver a much improved educational environment with non-flicker day light colour render to remove headaches from old fluorescent and tungsten lighting and greatly decreased maintenance with a warrantied new for old policy on fittings for 5 years.
Results
The project was delivered on budget and on time thanks to the close working relationship with the team at Moat Community College. The LED Lighting was installed over 3 weeks during the summer holidays 2020 ensuring no disruption to the School during Term Time. Some adtional lighting will now be upgraded in the October HalfTerm.
